Call Me By Your Name by André AcimanMy rating: 1 of 5 stars
I feel like im the odd one out here but I didn't like this book at all in fact I found it cringy and gross similar to the way the virgin suicides and lolita made me feel I don't know if that was the point but if so nailed it. this is the second book I've read by this author and hated so it could be that.
for anyone who doesnt know this book is about a 17 year old boy and his attraction and love affair with a 24 year old professor who is staying with his family for the summer. the fact that this is a romance between two men does not bother me at all. the age gap is what really bothers me the fact that it read to me like oliver was taking advantage of this 17 year old kid who is so confused by what he wants and how he feels for most if not all of this novel and the first love scene read as non-consensual to me. it also really pissed me off that near the end of the book Elios parents seem to be aware and approve of what's going on what parent in their right mind would be ok with that?
In the end I didn't like this book it made me so uncomfortable.
